Year-End Tire Shipment Forecast Shows Slight Growth for 2016

WASHINGTON, DC, December 9, 2016 — Total U.S. tire shipments will increase slightly in 2016 according to a forecast by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), the national trade association for tire manufacturers in the U.S.

  • Passenger vehicle original equipment and replacement tire shipments are expected to fall slightly compared to 2015.
  • The light truck tire segment should end the year with growth in both original equipment and replacement tire shipments.
  • Original equipment truck tire shipments are projected to decrease while replacement truck tire shipments increase. Total truck tire shipments (original equipment plus replacement) will decrease.
  • Overall, total tire shipments are projected to increase from 313.5 million units to 314.4 million.
